In this section you’ll find some free practice activities to help you prepare for the test.
The main part of the test is listening practice, and there are different listening types.
This activity gives you an idea of the types of grammar questions that you will find. The grammar is generally at a CEFR B2 level, and it’s set within a maritime context. This means the situations you’ll read about are similar to what you could experience when working on a cruise ship. You have to select the correct option to fill the gap.
In the following activity you have to drag the words into the correct category (in red). There are two items for each column. Let’s take ‘safety equipment’ as an example of a category. In this case, lifeboats and lifejackets are good answers.
The following exercise tests your vocabulary. You have to label the picture by dragging the correct word to the item on the photo. This activity isn’t too difficult, as you can always guess the words that you don’t know or aren’t sure of. Tip: start by choosing the words that you already know.
The next activity is a grammar test about sentence construction. You have to drag the words from the column on the right and place them in the blue boxes to make a correct sentence. The first and last words of each sentence cannot be moved.
Reading test
Here are two example of the types of reading test you have to do. In the first one you read a short text that is based on a maritime or cruise ship theme. Then you have to select the correct word from the drop-down list.
In this test-type you have to match the title of the paragraph to the paragraph contents. The best way to do this type of activity is to read the text quickly the first time, in order to get a general understanding of what it’s about. Then read it more carefully and do the matching activity.
